Origin PC has just launched an updated EON17-S, a new laptop in Origin PC’s lineup with the latest Sandy Bridge CPUs all the way up to the Core i7 Extreme Edition, which can be overclocked up to 4.5GHz! In other words 500Mhz higher than the just announced Alienware M18x. In the graphics department it can be equipped with the fastest single-GPU solution currently on the market–Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 485M with 2GB of GDDR5.

Origin’s engineers have apparently been tinkering with the motherboard B3 stepping to achieve such high processor clock speeds when Intel’s Turbo Boost feature is active. You don’t have to worry about about longevity or system stability issues either, as the overclocked EON17-S laptops are fully covered by Origin’s 1 to 3-year warranty with free shipping and part replacements as well as free lifetime support.

“The EON17-S laptops are remarkably portable and with 2nd generation Intel processors overclocked to 4.5GHz, they are the fastest Origin laptops ever built on an Intel mobile platform” says Kevin Wasielewski, Origin CEO and co-founder in a press release. If anything, this is an understatement–the 4.5GHz clock speed makes it the fastest laptop CPU from any manufacturer.

This is clearly an impressive laptop in all areas. The only thing one might have wished for is a dual-GPU SLI or CrossFireX option, but the GTX 485M should have no problems whatsoever in offering fluid frame rate in all games for years to come.
