Maingear ex-L 17 Configurable with GTX480

June 24, 2010 by Berg divider image

Maingear ex-L 17The new 17-inch monster gaming laptop from Maingear, the ex-L 17 is configurable down to the smallest detail. It’s available with either of the top models in ATI/AMD’s and Nvidia’s lineups – the HD5870 or the latest GTX 480M respectively. Both with ultra-fast GDDR5 memory modules. Alternatively, professional users can opt for a Quadro FX 2800M for $500 extra (a significantly slower card, but certified for CAD and medical applications). A neat feature is the option to have the lid laser engraved with an image of your own choosing.

You can choose between a range of Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs, a couple of which are quad-core alternatives, and up to 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM. The hard drive bottleneck can be overcome with dual, uber-fast SSDs operating in RAID0, but if you don’t feel like spending half again the cost of the laptop, the same can be done with two 7,200rpm conventional hard drives. A base model of the ex-L 17 with the HD5870 starts at $1,899, and if you want all the bells and whistles it could set you back more than $5,000.
